If a laptop is stolen for any reason, the security units should be informed (police or gendarmerie) and an official report is prepared. In addition, the user should notify the university in written together with the official report within two days following the incident. The following steps are followed according to the term in which the laptop is provided:

If the concerned insurance company compensates for the stolen device, the IT Dept. provides an available computer for the user after s/he deposits an amount of 250 USD or its equivalent in TL to the bank account of the university within 30 days. The user has to pay 1000 USD in 30 days if the insurance company does not compensate for the stolen device as the claim made is deemed not valid.

After the necessary documents are prepared and submitted to the Document Follow-up (Front Desk), the theft follow-up transactions begin. The student will follow up the issue with Financial Affairs and Human Resources Directorate in this process. If HelpDesk gets the approval of the interested Directorate, HelpDesk will provide the computer.
Loss, theft, and/or damage are not covered by insurance. Software/programmes are not covered by insurance.
First notify the HelpDesk via e-mail (ogrenci-yardim@ieu.edu.tr) about all kinds of breakdowns, if this not possible, apply personally. The authorized person will determine the problem and help you to fix it. As there may be some data loss in your computer depending on the failure, users are responsible for saving all data.
The computer or its parts can be damaged as a result of user errors such as fall, misuse, stroke, liquid spills, changing blos passwords of the system. In this case, you should apply to the HelpDesk in 2 days at most and fill in a form which states the incident which causes the failure. In line with this form, the necessaruy procedures will be followed. However, users are responsible for the cost of products to be replaced as a result of user damages or repair.
The laptops are introduced to the system and their network and internet connections are completed before delivery for use to the students. In addition, students can use the machines located at laboratories and library. The University provides an internet connection in each office for the administrative and academic personnel. Each user including academicians, administrative staff and students can apply to HelpDesk for activating their personal laptops.
Can I have access to the school internet with my my personal laptop?
Yes, you should apply to the HelpDesk with your laptop and fill in an activation form. As the you can activate only one computer within the campus, if you are using another laptop, its activation will be stopped. This activation can only be done for students and academic staff of the university.
What will happen to my laptop when I unregister from the university?
Students will deliver their laptops and its parts within three working days without any need for warming if the education or the service of the user ends, if the user takes a temporary leave for any reason or if the university asks him to give back his laptop.

Does the University provide electronic mail service?
Yes, the University provides an electronic mail account in the following format for all students and acadmic staff. In addition, mail accounts are provided for various activities and clubs.
Academic/Staff mail format : name.surname@ieu.edu.tr
The University gives an e-amil account of 25 Mb capacity for each student accepted to Izmir University of Economics in the following format: name.surname@std.ieu.edu.tr. Students who could not get their e-mail addresses for any reason can apply to the HelpDesk and ask for support.
You can have access to your mails from all around the world by entering the link http://webmail.ieu.edu.tr. After you enter the address and the user information, you can log into your account. For detailed information, please see 'Documents'.
Each student in the University has a web site allocated for his/her personal usage and that is accessible on internet.
Web area is the place where the personal web pages you prepared are being published on internet. If you prepare your personal web page and transfer the files about the page to this area, all internet users can see this area and visit your page. The capacity of the web area is 120 mb.
Unless otherwise specified, your web address will be like http://homes.ieu.edu.tr/username. username is the same with your username for your e-mail account. You can visit our 'Documents' page for detailed information about how to use these areas.
Yes, you can have a web site for your club. In order to do this, you should make a written application to Student's Dean Office and IT Dept. Following the approval of your written application by Dean's Office and the Directorate, the necessary procedures are followed. If deemed aceptable, the head of the club will get the necessary information for access and the password from HelpDesk.
I do not like and cannot use the Linux operating system. Is there any other operating system to download?
Yes, you can download another operating system on the condition that it is certified. (The invoice of the certificate should be arranged on your name.)
I have bought a certified operating system. What should I do?
You should apply to Helpdesk to have access to internet and fill in the form 'Certified User'. This introduces you to the campus network. You should apply to HelpDesk in order to have access.
I have bought a certified operating system. Can I ask for help from Helpdesk for setup?
No. The University does not provide software support for any operating system except for the open source softwares within the framework of the regulations and gerenal principles. Is there a desk where I can ask for help for Windows 2000 or XP?
I am using an uncertified operating system, but I have a hardware failure, what should I do?
You should apply to HelpDesk for the most appropriate and speedy solution for all kinds of hardware problems no matter whichever operating system is used.
Software certificate is a document which preserves the rights of the owner of copyright (software producer). It is obligatory to get a certificate for each software. This shows that you do not violate the copyright of the producer and consider his efforts. The rights of the owner of copyright are also preserved by laws.
Copyright laws declare openly that persons cannot copy softwares without permission. Nobody can copy and distribute a software without the permission of the copyright owner. If you copy a software without permission or provide an illegal copy for another person, you will violate the laws.

Viruses are programs coded to damage computers and files. That is, they are a series of commands which tell the computer what to do and how to do in line with their purposes.
